JAN Board Member Feature: Ruthania Hudson
Jackson native Ruthania Hudson is a JAN Ward 5 representative and honorary Alta Woods Neighborhood Association president. She served as the official president from 2004 to 2011. Hudson is also assistant superintendent of Sunday schools at Morning Star Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the NAACP.
Hudson was raised in West Jackson, specifically the Pecan Boulevard and Claiborne Avenue area. As a child, she had a passion for cryptography and later fell in love with computers and software. She would join her mother at neighborhood meetings and admired the dedication everyone had toward the neighborhood. Hudson attended Pecan Park Elementary School, Blackburn Middle School, Provine High School, and Jackson State University. After graduating from Jackson State with a degree in mathematics, she moved to Alta Woods in 1996 to bring that same level of dedication from her West Jackson neighborhood to South Jackson.
After college, she worked as payroll director for the Salvation Army Divisional Headquarters before working at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She remained there for 18 years as a systems analyst/coordinator for Kronos before accepting a position with Ultimate Kronos Group as the senior technical support technician.
Hudson joined JAN because of her deep love and dedication for Jackson. “I love to say I’m 100% Jackson, born and raised,” Hudson said. I am dedicated to my hometown and want it to prosper for current and future generations. My vision for Jackson is to grow and return to the splendor, that is the capital city of Mississippi.”
